I Computer Science and Informatics Conference of the North of Chile

The First Computer Science and Informatics Conference of the North of Chile (INFONOR-CHILE) is a conference where the academia and industry meet to share their experiences and new developments. This conference includes: presentation of scientific papers and IT experience and applications, tutorials, academia-industry round tables, and invited talks from mainstream researchers and professionals.

INFONOR-CHILE 2010 will take place from November 15th to November 19th, 2010 at the Universidad Católica del Norte.

The organization of this event is a joint effort between universities belonging to the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) that are located in the north of Chile: Universidad de Tarapacá Arica, Universidad Arturo Prat Iquique, Universidad Católica del Norte y Universidad de Antofagasta Antofagasta, Universidad de Atacama Copiapó y Universidad de La Serena La Serena.

Because of the recent earthquake that affected some cities from the center and southern regions of Chile, the Universidad de Concepción became unable to organize the Jornadas Chilenas de Computación this year. In an act of solidarity with Universidad de Concepción, the INFONOR-CHILE committee joined forces with their counterparts of the Jornadas Chilenas de Computación, to organize a bigger joint event in Antofagasta. This year, the INFONOR-CHILE conference will replace the Chilean Encounter of Computer Science. In the future, INFONOR-CHILE will become an itinerant annual event that will be organized in different northern Chilean universities.

Papers must be original works in Computer Science and Informatics, including but not limited to:

• Software Engineering : Software Architectures, Requirements Engineering, QA, Software Process Improvement, Validation and Verification, Agent-Based Software.
• Pattern Recognition and Applied Artificial Intelligence : Biometric Patterns, Object Recognition, Face Recognition, Clustering, Classification, Artificial Vision, Robotics and Automation in the Industry.
• Data Engineering : Data Mining, Data Warehousing, OLAP, Visualization, Text Mining, Scientific and Biological Databases, Bioinformatics.
• Web Engineering: Semantic Web, Ontologies, Web Mining, Web Applications, Usability, Accessibility, Social Application, Web Services Applications, Metrics.
• Information and Management Systems: Knowledge Management, Decision-Support Systems, Information Systems Architectures, Project Management, Information Society, E-Government, E-Business, E-Commerce, Process Modeling and Simulation.
• Parallel and Distributed Systems : Grid and Cluster Computing, High-Performance Computing (HPC), Complex System Modeling Applications, Parallel and Distributed Algorithm Applications, Privacy and Security, Mobile Computing.

• Submissions: August 23th, 2010.
• Acceptance Notification: September 30th, 2010.
• Camera-Ready Submissions: October 22th, 2010.

All of the papers must present original research or experience work. They must not have been published elsewhere or being subject to review in other events or journals.

Papers must be written in Spanish, Portuguese or English and must be submitted in PDF format. All of the papers must follow the conference formatting rules:

• Formatting rules in Microsoft Word (DOC) format.
• Formatting rules in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) format.

There are two kinds of submissions:

• Short Paper, with a maximum length of 4 pages.
• Full Paper, with a maximum length of 10 pages.

In both cases, the abstract must not be longer than 250 words.

Speakers must be registered in the conference in order for their contributions to be accepted in the program.

The best papers will be proposed for publication in the INGENIARE journal (indexed in Scielo Chile). Authors should submit an extended version of the paper that will follow the regular reviewing process of the journal.

Submissions are through Easychair (EasyChair JCC2010). All submissions will be reviewed by the program committee.
